… kindness
You may not think that kindness has anything to do with #InvisibleIllness, or #dSavannahDefects, but it does.
When you have an #InvisibleIllness, of any kind, it’s really easy to be mean to yourself. To beat yourself up for feeling the way you do, for not being able to do as much as you used to, for hearing over and over from people in authority (doctors, for one) that you’re wrong. (Of course, this goes for ‘normal’ people as well.)
We say things to ourselves that we wouldn’t say to our worst enemies.
We say we’re horrible, we’re awful, we’re worthless, we’re terrible, we’re stupid, we don’t deserve to live.
All of which are big fat lies.
All of which is absolutely WRONG.
And it’s a habit that is super-hard to break.
My heath coach said I should ask myself:
What is the kindest thing I can do for myself today?
It is such a simple, yet profound question.
I wrote it on an orange sticky note and stuck it the wall next to my computer.
It’s something that has to be asked, over and over, just as we have to break bad habits.
What is the kindest thing I can do for myself today?
What is the kindest thing I can do for myself today?
What is the kindest thing I can do for myself today?
For me, I’m absolutely hurting and it’s grey and I’m tired. So, I’m gonna craw back in bed, maybe read a little, and rest. I’m going to ignore the very long to-do list, and be kind to myself.
I’m the only one of me I’ve got.

Definitely take care of you.

Self-care is something we all need to be better at.
I only have one of you too!!! So get some rest and be kind to yourself!
Yes, ma’am!!!!
Hi, just dropped by from the challenge and this is the first post I’ve read in your series so I’m kind of at a disadvantage, but I think I get the tune of your theme. I can see how kindness to yourself plays an intregal part. You can’t continue beating yourself up, especially when you have others who refuse to believe you, doing that for you. I like the advice your health coach gave you. It’s helpful advice for anyone. I can think of days that it would apply to me. I’m going to start asking myself that question each day. We all should. Glad I found your blog and I hope you find some peace and comfort with whatever illness or injury you are suffering from. I will have to come back for a longer visit and tour your blog so I can learn more about you. You seem like a sweet person who wants to share good thoughts with everyone.
Take care,
Melissa Sugar

AAaawww. Thanks! *reaches out and catches it*
Sometimes just accepting the fact that you can’t do what you used to be able to and not beating yourself up over it is the hardest part.

It really is.
Thanks for stopping by.
You hit the nail on the head…exactly. I’ve battled this same invisible illness for 30 years. And every day I battle the nasty voices that tell me I’m lazy and worthless. I’m going to write on a post-it too and stick it on the wall.
I’m so sorry to hear you’re a fellow warrior, but I am glad that me sharing those words can possibly help. {{{hugs}}}
Kindness to ourselves is the hardest kindness to show. Be kind to yourself! Look at all you do.
I keep forgetting about that last bit. 😉
