As of today, I’m officially a published book author. (!!!) My book, A Spicy Secret, #22 in the Annie’s Attic Mystery series, showed up in my friend’s mailbox. (I haven’t gotten my copies yet.) (But note how perfectly the cover matches my site! And I had nothing to do with it, other than the words I wrote – the publisher’s graphic designers came up with it all on their own, and perfectly captured the main elements.)
I reviewed my extremely long list of acknowledgements*, which begins: “Being a writer can be very solitary, but being a published writer also means that quite a few people believed in you and helped you out along the way.” And that got me thinking about how many of the people on that list had more faith in my ability to write a book than I probably had.
In celebration of their faith in me, and my book (!!!), here are a few of my favorite quotes on that subject.
1. “Faith is the daring of the soul to go further than it can see.” ~ William Newton Clark
2. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
3. “Act as if it were impossible to fail.” ~ Dorothea Brande
4. “The one thing all famous authors, world class athletes, business tycoons, singers, actors, and celebrated achievers in any field have in common, is that they all began their journeys when they were none of these things.” ~ The Universe
5. “None of us knows what might happen even the next minute, yet still we go forward. Because we trust. Because we have Faith.” ~ Paulo Coelho, Brida
I’ve always been a writer, but I never imagined I would actually get published. Writing the book proposal, and then writing the book, was kind of a dare to myself. And I guess everyone wins. 🙂
As a writer, even if you outline and plan, you have no idea what the outcome will be. New characters may pop up. The staircase may suddenly become an escalator. And after you’ve done all the hard work of writing, you have no idea if the book will ever be seen by humans who aren’t related to you.
And the same goes for practically everything you do in life. Looking for a job. Looking for love. Finishing a scrapbooking project.
Nothing will get done if you don’t take that first step. You just gotta have faith.
*I’ll have to post my acknowledgement on my site somewhere – it was too long to include in the actual book. And if you’d like a copy of my book, feel free to contact me.

I can actually say….I knew you when. It is such a thrill to actually see your name on the book. I could not be happier for you. I know this has been a dream of yours for so long, and to see it come true is just heart warming. Such great quotes and meaning in this blog. I am going to keep these quotes. They inspire me just like you do! Congrats, birthday twin. Thanks for reminding me to have faith.
Yup, you DID know me when! (Let’s refrain from saying how long.) And I’m glad these quotes inspire you.
dS. I think you are the only one who doubted your abilities. I am so glad you didn’t listen to your inner demons and followed your path. You have made the world a better place by being who you are…truly.
