So, my writer friend Elise Stephens does this thing on her blog called “Friday Five”, which is what it sounds like ~ five topics with two to three sentences each. Although I’m certainly not going to steal her idea, I decided I could do a post on deep random thoughts I’ve been having… ones I don’t think I can flesh out into a full blog post. Or ones that aren’t worthy of one. So, here ya go… and remember, told you they’re random!
iTunes really is a genius sometimes. Tonight it played Cyndi Lauper’s song “He’s So Unusual” (off her album She’s So Unusual), and right after, it played “Femme L’a Dit” by the group Feufollet, off the Oxford American’s 11th Edition of Southern Music. This pairing shouldn’t work – it’s 44 seconds of little girl voice and piano, then 4 minutes, 21 seconds of French sung in a woman’s sultry accent to zydeco music. But somehow, it does.
Change your perspective. This one seems wildly obvious, but sometimes we forget that to change how we look at things, we literally have to change what we’re looking at. Silly case in point: I’m in the grocery store, looking for sunflower seeds. I’m in the right section, but I just don’t see any. A guy walks by with his cart. I stop looking and smile at him. As soon as he’s gone, I see the sunflower seeds. Like, right that second.
Which leads to my next random thought: smile, even if you don’t feel like it. (For more on this topic, please visit my friend Jerry’s blog and read his take on it.)
I had a moment with a young buck. Seriously. Before I went to the grocery store, hubs warned me that deer are all over and to be careful. (Remember, I live in rural Arkansas.) I didn’t see a single one on the way there, but on the way home, I passed one, standing still in a neighbor’s yard. I slowed, stopped, and looked in his eyes. We shared a moment. Of what? I don’t know how to describe it. But, ‘twas tres beautiful.

This is my darling puppy Maggie. Notice she’s on a leash. If we let her off, she’d be a teensy black dot in the distance in no time. She’d come back…eventually….
My dog can totally jump over the fence, but she doesn’t. She doesn’t know she can. And please don’t tell her. Also, compared to the dogs featured on the website dog shaming, she’s an angel. (Go look at those pics. They’re hilarious!) This makes me think: how many things can we do, but like Mags, we don’t know we can? Are we too afraid to try? Or do we just need to consider new options?
Which leads directly back to change your perspective. This one probably deserves a full blog post, but I do want to remind all seven of my faithful readers that sometimes, you just need a change. Get away from your desk. Get out of the house. Go antiquing, or for a bike ride. You might find that whatever problem is bothering you either no longer bothers you when you’re back, or that your subconscious has figured out a solution.
Now, go have some deep/random thoughts of your own!

Thank you for the mention. It brought a smile to my face. These random thoughts are nice little jewels.
Thank you! 🙂
