B is for…

…Babies

BI figured if I wrote about adults yesterday, today I should write about babies, the other end of the age spectrum. (But thanks, Brandi, for the lovely list of other B topics I could have written about.)

Babies are ooey, gooey, pooping, peeing, eating miracles. And they have no worries, no responsibilities. Hungry? They cry. Just peed their diaper? They cry. Something amuses their little baby brains? They coo or giggle. Something catches their eyes? They go after it and bat at it with their fat little hands. And someone is always always watching out for them, making sure they have clean nappies and food (or drink) and that they have soft toys to snuggle up against and nice clothes to throw up on and things to fling about and most importantly that they don’t go wandering off into traffic or stick their fingers in a light socket or drown in a toilet.

Not to mention the ooohs and aaahs if they’re being a particularly sweet baby whilst out and about with mum and dad – mum and dad get nary a glance, but baby gets petted on and told how pretty/handsome/darling/delightful they are. Mum and dad most certainly don’t get that kind of treatment, and if a stranger came up and started saying similar, that stranger would probably end up in a jail cell.

I mean, seriously, being a baby is da bombdiggity!

New baby me. See? Not a care in the world.

New baby me. See? Not a care in the world. Except perhaps wondering why I’m behind bars at such a tender age.

And don’t you sometimes wish you could go back to that simpler time? I know I do.

The store doesn’t have your favorite brand of chocolate in stock? Start screaming at the top of your lungs, throw in a few good arm and leg flails for good measure, and someone will come along and hug you and pat your back and distract you with a colored lolly. Not feeling so hot? Just vomit, wherever you are, on whatever you want, and someone will come along and clean you up, and probably hug you and pat your back and put you in something nice and clean and cozy. Can’t find clothes that fit? Grab all the pants and shirts and skirts off the rack and drag them all over the floor. In this case, there might be a wee bit of cursing, hopefully under the someone’s breath, but still… it’ll all get taken care of, with absolutely no effort on your part.

When you have a birthday these days, it’s frowned upon if you smear the cake all over yourself, and the gifts just aren’t quite as fun. I mean, really, in your heart of hearts, wouldn’t you rather have Legos and some Hot Wheels and a Barbie doll than a gift certificate to Home Depot?

Like I said yesterday, being an adult is just not all it’s cracked up to be.

Lawd knows what my entry for C will end up being. Maybe cookies, since I’m apparently regressing.

Ah! Such valid points. Well, feel free to barf all over anything anywhere and then throw a temper tantrum at the top of your lungs in public. I’ll still love ya

I’ll be certain to check often so you always have a lovely wardrobe of clean, fresh straight jackets

Yes, there are days where we just want someone else to be in charge. I’ve had a few of those myself recently : ) I’m visiting from the A-Z today…good luck as you write through the alphabet!

  5. J here, stopping by from the #atozchallenge as part of the A to Z Ambassador Team! (I’m a minion/volunteer under Arlee.)
Great post. I’m looking forward to more. Let me know if I can help you in any blogging way this month. I’ve followed you on your listed social media sites.
I like your “What I’m reading now” widget. I should have one of those! Preferably one that updates via an app. Any thoughts?
I wouldn’t trade places with a baby though. I was desperate for independence! And babies… 100% dependent on others. Can’t survive on their own at all. But when I’m sick, yes, I do wish someone would just come do anything, ANYTHING, to make it better. Maybe I need to try crying like a baby… probably an app for that. 😉 LOL

Hi! Thanks for stopping by, Arlee’s minion!

I found the widget via a WordPress widget search. It doesn’t update via an app… I have to go into my widgets and update… which I guess is about the same idear. The funny thing is I’m not actually reading that book – I’m reading an ARC of The Book of Phoenix by Nnedi Okorafor, but the widget doesn’t recognize books until they are actually published. 🙂

There probably is a crying app… and if not, you just invented it! Ha!

    Heh, good points. 🙂

  7. Oh, please let me go back. Let me start again; I’ll probably make all the same mistakes, but it was such fun making (some of) them. Great start to the A-Z.

I was never allowed to throw tantrums. There were 9 kids in my family and while some tantrums are inevitible they weren’t the norm. Cakes my mom made for us were always special. But simpler times, yah, I like them better and I try to keep things simple and uncomplicated here at home. Doesn’t always work but I try. 🙂

Hahaha! Enjoyed reading. I have a four months old niece in the house who keeps giving me the same thoughts. All she does is poop, cry, laugh, enjoy, eat, sleep, and get cuddled, loved, and kissed endlessly 24/7.

Hmmmm….should I be offended with the Home Depot gift card reference? 🙂

“B” is a great letter. Just look at “B”randi and me (“B”etsy or “B”T) if you need a reminder.

Whatcha think? Tell me, tell me!
