\"Insecure<\/p>\n

It’s time once again for my ruminations on the art and craft of writing for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group<\/a>. (And if you’re a writer, and you’re not insecure, you’re probably doing it wrong.) (Just kidding. If you’re a writer, and you’re not insecure, please share your secret with the world.)<\/p>\n

Anywho, I’ve previously told you that we fight writers’ block<\/a>; to write with balance<\/a>; to read and write<\/a>; The Ten Commandments of Writing<\/a>; getting used to disappointment<\/a>; and learning how to deal with criticism<\/a> (a dreaded “C” word).<\/p>\n

Today, I want to chat with you a little bit more about the business of writing<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Many, many authors think that if they do the hard work of writing a book, all of their dreams will come true. They will not. Your hard work is just beginning!<\/p>\n

\"There<\/a>

There are lots of funny memes on writing, but for some reason I thought this one is the funniest. (Probably because of the cat.) (Also, my mom would be horrified to see a crystal ball.) (And yes, there really is that MUCH paperwork.)<\/p><\/div>\n

If you are an author (even if you happen to have a publisher), you also HAVE to be an entrepreneur. After writing the book, you have to edit it, approve covers, work on the blurb(s), write your bio, get your photo taken, create a website, etc. And, most importantly, you have to promote your work, and yourself, and your books.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, I don’t have all the answers, but I can direct you to someone who has a LOT of them.<\/p>\n

Kristine Kathryn Rusch<\/a> is one of my literary heroes. She’s been writing forever<\/em> (mostly sci-fi, but not all) and has done a lot of other really awesome things in the field. She also has a column on her site called “Business Musings<\/a>” that gives LOTS of good information on a variety of topics that are super-important to writers, such as contracts (the other dreaded “C” word).<\/p>\n

Anywho, she has curated an absolutely awesome! StoryBundle<\/a> (a way to: “Support awesome indie authors by paying however much you think their work is worth!”) with awesome! books for writers:<\/p>\n
