\"GodspeedI only recently met today\u2019s guest ~ online of course ~ but I was quickly drawn to her as she is also an artist and writer. But Bru, as she is called, has a problem I don\u2019t: she is losing her eyesight. Which I can\u2019t even imagine. And I am reminded again how grateful I am to have had lasik to correct my own poor vision.<\/p>\n

When Bru\u2019s debut novel, Godspeed<\/em><\/a>, was released on June 18th of this year (a month ago!), I offered to host her on my blog. (Yes, I\u2019m a wee bit behind in posting it\u2026 but aren\u2019t I always these days?)<\/p>\n

AND, in a completely unrelated coincidence, I actually won a copy of her book in a contest! Woo-hoo! (No, I haven\u2019t read it yet. {Sigh.} I seem to be going through some sort of mid-life crisis where I\u2019m reading very v e r y slowly; only about a book a month, when I used to read 4-6 per month. Minimum. {Another deep sigh.})<\/p>\n

In spite of the fact that I haven\u2019t read the book, others are doing so and loving it ~ as of right this second, Godspeed<\/em> has *fourteen* five-star reviews on Amazon! How amazing is that?!?!?<\/p>\n

Okay, I\u2019ll shaddup now, and let you get to meet Bru through her answers to The Questions<\/a>, of which she says \u201cI LOVED the huge choice of questions- I intentionally chose ones I have never answered before\u201d. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

5. What skill(s) do you wish you\u2019d learned as a kid?<\/h3>\n

No doubt about it: patience. My grandmother tried, rest her soul, by repeatedly using the phrase \u201cShortly,\u201d whenever I asked her when something was going to happen. It never worked and to this day I am still incredibly impatient. Sorry, Grandma!<\/p>\n

(dSavannah note<\/span>: Patience? What\u2019s that?!?!? I certainly don\u2019t have any, either. I\u2019m reminded of the prayer, which I repeat often: \u201cGod, please give me patience. And hurry!!!\u201d)<\/p>\n

8. Your favorite book growing up? Your favorite book now?<\/h3>\n

My favorite book growing up, and still one of my favorites, was The King\u2019s Procession<\/em><\/a> by James and Ruth McCrea. It\u2019s the story of a little boy who is ridiculed while walking with his old, dear donkey in the king\u2019s royal procession. The plot turns when he is offered a bright, white pony in place of the donkey\u2026and the ending of the story gets me in tears to this day.<\/p>\n

I used to check it out of the library repeatedly when I was very small\u2014we never could find it to buy it\u2014then one day, someone stole it from the library and I was heartbroken. I was about four at the time. It took almost thirty-five years for me to find a copy of that book, but when I finally did it was like reuniting with a dear old friend. I got to read it to my own daughter when she was little, which was a wonderful \u2018circle of life\u2019 moment for me.<\/p>\n

(dSavannah note<\/span>: It sounds lovely! Amazon currently shows one copy available for sale. If I had the money, I’d snap it up!)<\/p>\n

Favorite book now\u2014fiction or non? Fiction, I\u2019d have to say Jane Eyre<\/em><\/a>. Non-fiction, it is Please Understand Me II<\/em><\/a> by David Keirsey which is a book about temperament theory (another of my obsessions). That book changed the way I looked at everyone I have ever met, including myself.<\/p>\n

(dSavannah note<\/span>: Sounds interesting! Also, I wonder what these other<\/em> obsessions might be… hmmm…)<\/p>\n

24. If you could go back and give your 13-year-old self a piece of advice, what would it be?<\/h3>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t cry, dear, staring up at the sky as you do every night, wondering. Someday, you WILL know how it feels to be loved entirely by someone for exactly who you are, and you won\u2019t ever forget that feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

(dSavannah note<\/span>: That\u2019s a lovely thought. I want to tell my 13-year-old self that too.)<\/p>\n

25. What causes\/non-profits are near and dear to your heart? Why?<\/h3>\n

The Office of Letters and Light<\/a>, the non-profit that sponsors National Novel Writing Month<\/a> every year, because without their work, I would likely never have written a single novel in my lifetime, let alone written two that have been\/are going to be published.<\/p>\n

Also, Make A Wish<\/a>, because I believe so much in the good work that they do. Wish I could give them a million dollars.<\/p>\n

30. What\u2019s the most expensive crap you own that you can\u2019t live without?<\/h3>\n

My iPads\u2026yes, I have two. With my bad eyesight, I could never do as much as I do without them. I run the battery in one out, then pick up the second one. I really just don\u2019t know how I got by without them, they\u2019re magic.<\/p>\n

44. How far back can you trace your ancestry?<\/h3>\n

Not nearly as far as I\u2019d like. I\u2019ve tried and the records come to a dead halt with a census taken in Canada in the early 20th century. Records before that would have to be in England and Scotland (on my father\u2019s side of the family) but we can\u2019t find them. Shady, shady business. I will always wonder.<\/p>\n

6. What do you want on your tombstone?<\/h3>\n

\u201cShe loved, and was loved, whole-heartedly.\u201d<\/p>\n
