The Questions with Betsy Madden: Birthday Twin & Bibliophile (pt. 1)

birthday kitten lolcat cake cute funnySo… today (7/11) (yes, like the convenience store) is my birthday. It’s also the birthday of fellow writer h. l. nelson (who answered The Questions on 9/22/12), Merlin Leach (who works tirelessly for women and children’s rights through his Foundation), and my actual birthday twin (i.e., born the same year), Betsy, who is also a dear friend.

She so enjoys reading The Questions, and comments on most of them. After another dear friend of mine, Brandi Klepfer, participated in the mayhem, Betsy decided it would be fun to answer them herownself for our birthday.

You will note that she completely ignored my instructions regarding answering only seven questions, and answered all but two of them (and I’m up to 45), which is why you will get them in three parts; the first today (obviously), the second tomorrow, and the final one on Saturday morning (really Friday night).

But we don’t mind celebrating for the whole month of July, do we Betsy?

The Questions, 1-15

1. Tell the good readers of this blog how we know each other.

We were lucky enough (cough, cough) to go to high school together. Even though we were not close in high school, we touched base a few years ago through Facebook. Fate brought us together again so we could help each other the last couple of years. I cannot imagine my life without you now. Thank goodness for FB and my birthday twin!

(dSavannah note: I know! I can’t imagine it either.)

2. If your phone lets you have custom ringtones, what song do you use for your significant other?

How boring am I? I do not have a ring tone for anyone.

(dSavannah note: Trés boring. Tho to be honest, I don’t have a special ringtone for you either, mainly because we never call each other. {Betsy and I text like 17,000 times a day.} I have a chime for your text messages, but it’s not particular special.)

3. If you could trade places with anyone for a week, living or dead, who would it be and why?

It is weird. I cannot think of anyone I would trade places with even for a day. I know my life is not perfect. Heck, you know that by all the complaining I do to you, but I would not want to be anyone else. I would miss my family and friends.

4. What’s the worst meal you’ve ever eaten and where?

The worst meal I ever had is one I never even ate. I am not sure exactly where we were in Europe. We were on our senior trip at a hostel. The plate had a huge blob in the middle covered in gravy. They would not tell what it was so I never ate it. I passed it on to some guy in our class.

(dSavannah note: I have no recollection of this meal, tho of course I remember our senior trip!)

5. What skill(s) do you wish you’d learned as a kid?

I wish I learned the art of small talk with people I do not know. I would also have loved to learn classic dances and the piano.

(dSavannah note: I definitely wish I’d kept up with learning the piano.)

6. What do you want on your tombstone?

Actually, I could care less what would be on my tombstone, but my hubby says that it should read that I am finally getting a long enough nap.

(dSavannah note: For those of you who don’t know Betsy and I that well… basically, we can never seem to get enough sleep. And we both have horrid insomnia. So a dirt nap would finally be enough rest. :) )

7. What was the name of your first pet and what was it?

My first family pet that I remember was a dog. She was a beagle/shepherd mix. I named her Nickel because my Dad’s dog he had when he was younger was named Penny. I figured that was next in sequence. What did I know at 4?

(dSavannah note: Yet her cat’s name is Tommy. Way to ruin the theme!)

8. Your favorite book growing up? Your favorite book now?

The only book I remember specifically enjoying when I was young was Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Suess. I did read lots of Nancy Drew when I was younger, too. My favorite book now is A Spicy Secret by some chick named
D. Savannah George. Have you ever heard of her? Although it is a good story, it is my favorite because one of my dear friends accomplished her dream.

(dSavannah note: You’re sweet. *blushes*)

9. What is a guilty pleasure?

I have tons of guilty pleasures. Do I have to pick just one? Since I am answering, I can do what I want. :) Drink – Starbuck’s Vanilla Latte. Books – Cupcake Bakery Mystery series by Jenn McKinlay. They are just fun with quirky characters, movie quotes, and cupcakes. Movie – While You Were Sleeping. I have to watch a little bit of it every time it’s on. Music – “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard. I have to bop my head every time I hear it. TV Show – The Real Housewives of NJ. Yes, I am serious. LOL

(dSavannah note: I am so ashamed of you right now. )

10. Who was the last person you texted? What did you say? Did they respond?

Here’s a shock. It was to you. “Nite nite”. No response because I am sure you are sleeping.

(dSavannah note: If I didn’t respond, yup, I was actually sleeping!)

11. What three items will always be found in your refrigerator?

Water, Caffeine-free Diet Dr. Pepper, and at least two types of cheese.

(dSavannah note: Yum. Yum. Yum.)

12. Where is your favorite place to create?

I wish I was talented enough to create something artistically. I admire people who have such a talent. My only form of creating is sending cards to people. I like to do that at the dining room table so I have tons of space to spread out. I have just started making cards so they are not perfect as I would like, but I still have fun.

(dSavannah note: And don’t forget the bookmarks you made! Anyway, you’re far more creative than you give yourself credit for.)

13. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Seeing that I am completing this at 3:30am, I must be a night owl. You know me. Don’t you think I am the epitome of the phrase?

(dSavannah note: #snort. Yup.)

14. Obviously, as a creative person, every day is different, but what do you find yourself doing every day?

I am not a creative person, but something I have to do everyday is text or talk to my hubby, my Mom, and my birthday twin.

(dSavannah note: Yup. If we don’t hear from each other, we start to worry!)

15. What inspires you?

This is going to be weird, but I get inspired by making other people happy. I just like to send a little something to just put a smile on a friend’s face. I get pure joy from making someone’s day.

(dSavannah note: That’s not weird at all. You’re truly one of the most giving people I know.)

Happy Birthday! My birthday twin was Sally Ride.

  2. Betsy says:

Well, I answered all the questions because I wanted to take over your blog for three days. :) Celebrating all month is fine by me especially the free desserts! My Dad named Tommy so it’s his fault. :) Actually, we had 17-20 animals between Nickel and Tommy. LOL You helped with the bookmarks so I cannot take all the credit. Thanks for the sweet words. I enjoyed celebrating the day with you. Hope we get to do it again next year!

Whatcha think? Tell me, tell me!
