#dSavannahDefects – F is for…

…fatigue If I need to quickly define my health issues, I say I have “chronic fatigue and chronic pain”. (Cuz even *I* can’t remember all 20-something of my diagnoses.) As I described depression as being sad times 1,000, fatigue is being tired times 1,000. Times a million. I just ran across a site called “Mis-Treated“, about a woman’s search for answers to health problems. As I’ve clicked and clicked and read a bunch of posts, I’m mentally jumping up and down (cuz physically jumping up and down would hurt). She is writing about ME. About MY Story. About dealing with being chronically ill and disabled. She wrote a very cogent post, “Five Reasons Fatigue Isn’t Like Normal Tiredness (Proving Most People Don’t Get It)“. And … Continue reading

So you want to be a writer…. (pt 1)

My old typewriter, that I purchased at an antique store in the middle of nowhere, Arkansas, for a mere $35. Every writer needs an old typewriter, mainly to remind us how far we

I signed up for The Insecure Writers Support Group (#IWSG) a while ago, which comes with the obligation to write a post the first Wednesday of every month. I signed up for several reasons: 1, 2, 3 ~ I’m a writer, I’m insecure, and I have opinions about writing that I want to share; 4 ~ I’m an editor; 5 ~ I figured it would force me to write a blog post at least once a month. It didn’t. And I got removed from the list of bloggers, as I should be, considering the last and first #IWSG post I wrote was in May. So, I signed up again and I’m trying again. Can’t promise there will be a post on writing the first Wednesday … Continue reading

Q is for…

…Quotes I like quotes. A lot. One might even say I collect them. So here are some that I find inspiring (most links go to Amazon): “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” ~ Anne Frank. She lived such a short life, but she made it count. “All we truly know when we wake up in the morning is that we have the day in front of us to live.” ~ Ruth McGinnis (June 20, 1957 – October 06, 2009), author & musician, writing during her fight with ovarian cancer. I knew Ruth personally, and found her very wonderful. I can’t believe she’s been gone so long. “Most of the shadows of this life are … Continue reading

Not according to plan…

Sleeping. I have gotten some sleep, with the help of Piper, my snuggle kitty.

Last post, I had the unmitigated gall to give you a list of things I’d like to do this summer. And then I hurt my back. Now, I have had back problems for the vast majority of my life. Untreated scoliosis, a wreck my senior year of high school, a wreck soon after graduating college… The pain is just a part of my life. I complain, I go to the chiropractor, I take a pain pill if it’s real bad, and I usually just keep going. But this pain is new, and different. And 1,000 times worse. On Wednesday (or maybe Tuesday; I can’t quite remember), I start having what I can only call back spasms. The lower part of the right side of my … Continue reading

L is for…

So on Saturday, I wrote about Kissing. Today, for “L” day, I shall write about a similar and related topic, but first, I’d like you to watch this video by the incomparable Brad Paisley from his 2003 album Mud on the Tires. L is for Love and Lies A lot of people would say that you should never ever ever lie, regardless of the circumstances, and that if you love someone, and even if you don’t, honesty is always the best policy. However, I disagree with that sentiment, and agree with Brad’s philosophy (read the full lyrics to the song if’n you want): ‘Cause that’s love, you’ll see We all commit a little bit of perjury Ah but that’s no crime if you ask me, … Continue reading

Quotes about Courage

Courage painting by D. Savannah George

I recently went through my old DayPlanner ~ which I can’t seem to get rid of, even tho I don’t use it for its intended purpose any more ~ and found a bunch of quotes I’d written down and saved. It’s been quite some time since I wrote a post featuring quotes that I like, so I thought I should share some with you, my good readers. Today’s topic is Courage: something that I don’t necessarily have a lot of, but I try to practice anyway. I named my very first painting (yup, the one to the right) ~ which I did on February 28, 2003 ~ “Courage”. I always wanted to paint, but for some reason, probably because I mostly identified myself as a … Continue reading

My Favorite Lines from the #OrangeKaren Anthology

If you missed all of my #TeamOrange posts, I am a proud member of a group of writers who banded together to create the anthology Orange Karen: A Tribute to a Warrior, with all proceeds going to help fellow writer Karen DeLabar (yup, that girl in the banner with the orange hair) and her family pay for medical expenses associated with her bout with Toxic Shock Syndrome last year. Because I’m a part of this project, it’s against the rules to write a review on Amazon or Goodreads. (Something about bias. ) But I can do whatever I want on my blog, which is tell you I’m super-proud to be a part of this anthology. It truly has something for everyone – some fantasy, horror, … Continue reading
