#IWSG – So you want to be a writer…. (pt 3) –
with Bonus Thoughts on #NaNoWriMo

In my last post for the #IWSG, I told you that there are only two things you really need to do to be a writer: first, you read, and second, you write. I also told you I was going to go more into how it’s not quite that easy, and so I shall. I was looking through some old, old papers, and came across a list I’d written down while attending a writers’ conference a million years ago. (Or 20. More like 20.) I vaguely remember the person speaking (male), and the room (smallish? Maybe 25 (?) of us), and I definitely know it was long before email and e-books and self-publishing were viable alternatives to agents and publishers and all that. I signed up for several reasons: 1, 2, 3 ~ I’m a writer, I’m insecure, and I have opinions about writing that I want to share; 4 ~ I’m an editor; 5 ~ I figured it would force me to write a blog post at least once a month. It didn’t. And I got removed from the list of bloggers, as I should be, considering the last and first #IWSG post I wrote was in May. So, I signed up again and I’m trying again. Can’t promise there will be a post on writing the first Wednesday … Continue reading

My first #IWSG post

What the heck is #IWSG, you might ask…. well, it stands for Insecure Writer’s Support Group, and I discovered them last month while doing the #AtoZChallenge. #IWSG is posted by a various group of bloggers the the first Wednesday of every month. As the site says: “Time to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic.” Today, as I am tired (darn insomnia last night), I shall offer a bit of funny and a wee bit of encouragement.  I have long thought of writing a series of posts on “So You Want to Be a Writer”, so this will fit right in. And, it’ll (hopefully) get to me to publish something at least once a month. :)  … Continue reading
