Book Launch: What Girls Are Made Of

Not me. My grandmother. But also, a girl.

In case my dear readers haven’t noticed, I’m a girl. I was born a girl, I’ll die a girl. (Sans some parts, cuz, well, some of them were bad.) I’m also a feminist, which means I believe in equality for the sexes. And, as I’ve written about before, I’ve suffered abuse because I’m a girl. And sexual harassment. And mistreatment in the workplace because I’m a girl. And I’m afraid of many, many things that men cannot even fathom, because they are men and I’m a girl. Which leads me to this book, What Girls Are Made Of, which launches today. I first encountered this author’s work when I was able to request her children’s book Far From Fair from Amazon Vine (the super-secret group … Continue reading

C is for…

C

Obviously I’m late for my entry for today’s #AtoZchallenge2014… (and it’s only Day 3!). I meant to work on it last night, but was too tired. Plus I didn’t have a topic. Then I didn’t have time today before I left for school, and when I got home I essentially fell over into a coma, waking only when hubby roused me for dinner. Suggestions for topics from my friend Guster include:  “carnivorous… coniferous… cellophane… cello… cha-chas… crack… cucumber… collarbone… cummerbund… catch a falling star… comic books (my c)… bad words beginning with c…lol… can of soup… conviviality… contentious… construction sites for burying the bodies… collider as in Large Hadron… cats… clapping one’s hands… chicken… cork…” All of which are great words, but other than cat, I … Continue reading

#BlogAversary Winners!

#BlogAversary Thank You

Now, as I said in the rules on Day 1, incorrect answers were discarded. AND, because I can, I decided that the two people who entered *every* *single* *day* (Betsy M. and Christopher C.) should get bonus prizes. AND, again, because I can, and since I didn’t have enough entrants (because of the aforementioned incorrect answers), I combined or removed a few of the prizes. All the winners received emails on Wednesday, and I will contact the authors/artists as I hear back. Again, thank you thank you! to all the authors and artists who donated prizes, and to everyone who shared my contest, and to everyone who played! You’re ALL winners in my book! Prize Winners! Untitled Still Life with Journal, an original 9″ x … Continue reading

Celebrate my #BlogAversary! – Day 5

blog_header

It’s now Day 5 of my #BlogAversary and #TriviaContest! This celebration has *flown* by. Only *two* more days, and then I get to draw a bunch of people’s names (will yours be one of them?!?!) and give away lots of cool prizes, donated by lots of cool people! And yes, I’m posting a little early for today ~ technically, I should be posting at midnight, when the day actually turns over to Saturday, but I’m on a mini-vacation at the most wonderful place on earth (the coast of Georgia) {celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary with my hubby, per yesterday’s post}, and my access to the internet is dependent on when McD’s is open ~ only until midnight. (Starbucks is an old fuddy duddy, apparently; they … Continue reading

Celebrate my #BlogAversary! – Day 4

blog_header

It’s now Day 4 of my #BlogAversary and #TriviaContest! Thank you SOOO much to everyone who has been playing and sharing! On a personal note, today (8/8, the day I’m writing this, not the publish day), I am celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary. Before Mike & I got married, I thought it would be cool to make these signs ~ we’d take pictures with them and use ‘em as our thank-you cards. Hubs and I even created them together, and as he said today, we had a lot of fun doing so. Unfortunately, the day we *actually* got married (8/8/8), it poured rain, a HUGE storm, and we didn’t get to use our signs. Today, five years later, we returned to the scene of the … Continue reading
